What Is The Difference Between All These Spot Lights And Flood Lamps Codes ? GU4 , GU53 , GU10 , MR11 , MR16 , PAR20

Thinking of going LED for replacing your spot lights ? what fitting do I need ?

12Vmonster is going to explain to you in detail on what all these spot light codes mean - we will start off first with low voltage bulbs ( 6V - 12V - 24V )

MR series spot lights

 

MR8 - smallest halogen spot light

The MR8 utilizes a 2 pin GU4 fitting , 

The GU4 fitting is 2 pin , 4mm apart and only used in the MR8 and MR11 bulb

MR8 size is 25mm in diameter and widely use for novelty lights and interior of low voltage vehicles ( buses , RV , boats , yachts ) \\

MR11 - the small but bright MR11 halogen or LED light bulb utilizes a GU4 2 pin fitting.

The GU4 fitting is 2 pin and 4mm apart and only used in the MR11 and MR8 bulb

MR11 size is 35mm in diameter and widely use for track and ceiling spot lightingmr16 ceiling halogen spots

MR16 - the most widely used halogen or LED light bulb . The MR16 utilizes a GU5.3 2 pin fitting. ( similar to G5.3 fitting used on JC and JCD light bulbs )

The GU5.3 fitting is 2 pin and 5.3mm apart and used in the MR16 spot lights

MR16 size is 50mm in diameter and widely use for track and ceiling spot lighting , LED replacements are soon phasing the traditional halogen out.

gu10 ceiling halogen replacementsGU10 - household high voltage halogen spot light - This bulb utilizes a 2 pin GU10 fitting , the fittings is twist and lock , use caution when replacing as they need a bit of a twist to open but the halogens run very hot and can burn you. 

The GU10 fitting is 2 pin is 10mm apart and only used only in the GU10 light bulb , other variants including compact fluorescent lighting - CFL have used the GU10 as a fitting.

GU10 size is 50mm in diameter and widely use for home spot lighting , track and rail lamps and also standing and ceiling lamps

The PAR20 screw fitting is 26mm - 27mm in diameter and used in a large variety of light bulbs , other variants including compact fluorescent lighting - CFL , vintage light bulbs , JDD halogen and more.

PAR20 size is 65mm in diameter and widely use for home spot lighting , track and rail lamps and also standing and ceiling lamps
